Inactivated quadrivalent flu vaccine (split virion) 2023 Southern Hemisphere strains
Indications/Uses
Active immunisation of adults & childn from 6 mth for prevention of flu disease caused by flu virus types A & B.
Dosage/Direction for Use
0.5 mL single IM inj. Childn 6 mth to <9 yr not previously vaccinated against flu 2nd dose to be given after at least 4 wk interval.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity after previous inj or to flu vaccines.
Special Precautions
Anaphylactic reactions. Not to be administered intravascularly. Not to be used against all possible strains of flu virus. Postpone vaccination in patients w/ acute severe febrile illness. Thrombocytopenia, coagulation disorder; syncope. Immunodeficiency or concomitant use w/ immunosuppressives. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Inj site pain, redness, swelling. Fever. Adults & childn 6 to <18 yr: Myalgia; fatigue. Headache; GI symptoms eg, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain; arthralgia; shivering. Adults & childn 3 to <18 yr: Inj site induration. Adults: Sweating. Childn 6 mth to <6 yr: Loss of appetite; irritability/fussiness; drowsiness.
Drug Interactions
False +ve ELISA serologic tests for HIV-1, hepatitis C & HTLV-1.
